Orange Shirt Day, observed annually on September 30, is a Canadian commemorative day to raise awareness about the history and ongoing intergenerational impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples. Initiated by residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad, whose orange shirt was taken away on her first day of school, the event encourages Canadians to wear orange to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools and to promote the reconciliation principle that "Every Child Matters.
There is no school on September 30, so we are having our Orange Shirt Day on September 26, 2025.
