Spring Concert a Resounding Success!
Last night, Olympic Heights School came alive with music and joy as our talented Grade 1, 2, and 3 students lit up the stage at our annual Spring Concert. A heartfelt thank you to our students and staff—and a special shoutout to Mrs. Tran, whose passion and dedication made the evening truly unforgettable. A big thank you as well to Ms. Radomski for organizing and running the ReRun Project sneaker donation table (see below for more details)—we collected a fantastic number of pairs! Thank you, everyone, for making it such a wonderful evening!
Outstanding Fees
This a reminder that many of you have outstanding fees associated with your child’s account that require payment. Typically, the only fees that are school-based are ones that are associated with field trips. These trips are run on a cost recovery basis as we are required to pay for things such as transportation and service provider costs. Unpaid fees can result in a significant impact on the programming we offer at our school such as; limiting our ability to provide student technology, art supplies, library books and various student resources.
For your convenience, payment options of credit and debit are available online through your MyCBE account. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office.
Calgary Youth Science Fair this Saturday!
Get ready to be amazed by the brilliant minds of our grade 5 and 6 students at the Calgary Youth Science Fair (CYSF). After a great showing of hard work and dedication at our Olympic Heights science fair on February 11th, five projects were selected to move forward to the city wide event. However, It isn't just for participants - it's open to the public on Saturday, April 12th, at Olympic Oval from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. So bring your friends, family, and curiosity, to not only support our very own OHS students, but also to be inspired by our city’s next generation of scientists and engineers.
Active School Club
The Active School Club is excited to partner with The ReRUN Shoe Project for a donation drive. The ReRun Shoe Project, co-founded by Julie-Anne Staehli, a remarkable Canadian Olympian, has gathered over 5,800 pairs of running shoes across five Canadian cities, aiding numerous families in maintaining an active lifestyle. Join us in this effort by bringing running shoes suitable for all ages - from children to adults - right up until Earth Day, Tuesday , April 22nd 2025!
Alien Inline Skating for Grades 3 & 4
Get ready as Alien In-Line brings their dynamic inline skating program to our school! Scheduled to take place in the gym from April15th to 17th, our Grade 3 and 4 students will have the unique opportunity to learn a wide range of skating skills. From mastering the basics like standing on skates and simple forward motion to more advanced techniques including various stopping and turning methods, road/pathway etiquette, and even non-aerial jumping, there's something for every skill level. Following instruction, students will engage in games that incorporate these new skills in fun, active ways, possibly culminating in free skating sessions set to music.
Alien In-Line is committed to safety, providing all necessary protective gear (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet) for our students, and emphasizing its importance throughout the program. We encourage you to discuss the value of protective gear with your child to reinforce its importance both during the program and in any future skating activities. Should you have any questions or wish for more details about the program, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.
ELEV8 Lacrosse Program for Grade 5 & 6
We are excited to share about the opportunity for our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students to participate in the ELEV8 Lacrosse program, coming to Olympic Heights on the week of April 28th. This program is not just an introduction to the sport of lacrosse; it's a deep dive into its indigenous roots and the significant cultural heritage of the sport in Canada and North America. Led by professional coaches and National Lacrosse League players, the Elev8 Classroom Lacrosse program is designed to engage students actively, ensuring a rich, hands-on learning experience. Beyond mastering the basics of lacrosse, our students will embrace core values such as teamwork and integrity, enhancing their physical skills that are fundamental to all sports.
ELEV8 Lacrosse is fully equipped, bringing all necessary gear, including real lacrosse sticks and soft balls, ensuring a safe and comprehensive educational environment. Students will not only learn the mechanics of lacrosse—passing, catching, throwing, and cradling—but also develop crucial physical literacy skills including agility, balance, and coordination. This experience promises not only to enrich their understanding of a historically significant sport but also to foster their physical development through engaging and respectful play.
