Back to School Information 2024-2025

Dear Olympic Heights’ Families,

Anticipation is building as our first day of the 2024-2025 school year approaches. Our classrooms, hallways, and learning spaces are shiny, clean, and ready to go!

Day 1!

The first day of school is Thursday, August 29, with regular hours of 8:40 AM – 3:13 PM (8:40 – 11:20 AM for kindergarten). Please refer to our school calendar for further information. On Wednesday, August 28, you should receive a message from your child’s teacher, introducing themselves and welcoming your child to the classroom. As class lists are still being revised, we will share this information with families on the day before school begins.

On August 29, your child will look for their grade grouping outside, on our school yard. Please take them to their grade group area, where they will be met by the teaching team and organised into their classrooms. While we know many parents will want to come to the classroom to see their child off, we ask that you leave your child with their teacher, on the playground, as the first day in the building can be quite chaotic. We will have staff available to assist students and families who may be unfamiliar with the building.

Have you done your homework?

If you have not had a chance, please review our OHS Back to School information, as well as the "Welcome Back to School" message on the CBE website for general information and reminders about this school year. Your MyCBE account will be an important part of the school year so if you have not signed up, please do.

Please remember that if you need bussing and have not yet registered, this must be done immediately to minimize delays in getting your child transported by bus. Information on how to do this is on the CBE Transportation website.

Many students stay at school for lunch. If your child is going to be staying for lunch, you must also register them for the noon supervision program. This can be done via parents’ MyCBE/PowerSchool account once school begins.

What to bring

As we get back into the routine of school, please remember to provide your child with a clearly labeled water bottle, a healthy snack, lunch, and indoor shoes that stay at school. Please ensure all clothing and outdoor wear is labelled with your child’s name, as this makes our lost and found process much easier. Younger students should also have a spare change of clothing in case of emergencies. We supply academic-type materials and supplies such as markers, pencils, paper, etc., so students do not have to bring these to school.

The main office will be officially open beginning Monday, August 26 from 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Normal office hours will be 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Friday.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten families will be following a staggered entry procedure for August 29 and 30. On August 29 only students with a surname starting with A-M will attend. On August 30, only students with a surname starting with N-Z will attend. All Kindergarten students will attend on Tuesday, September 3. Kindergarten runs daily from 8:40-11:20 AM. We ask that parents bring their child to the front kindergarten garden area where they will be met by their teacher. Please do not park in our kiss and drop lane in front of the school as this impedes traffic.

For 2024-‘25, the Olympic Heights School website will be the “go to” primary source of information. Please check back often as many news items will be shared on the website first, with less frequent e-newsletters highlighting information already on the website. Classroom specific information will still be shared via SchoolMessenger, as well as some whole school information of high importance.
