Winter Concert a Huge Triumph!
The December 12th Winter Concert was a magical showcase of talent, warmth, and festive spirit. Our Grades 4, 5, and 6 students dazzled the audience with heartwarming renditions of holiday songs, The auditorium was alive with the sound of hand-bells and hand-chimes, adding a unique touch to the evening. Grade-level performances were intermingled with superb solo performances by our Olympic Height student musicians! Thank you to all the families who came to our Winter Concerts this week to celebrate the season.
A special note of gratitude goes to the incredible Mrs. Tran for her efforts in putting together the show. Her passion for music and commitment to our school community always shine through, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her guiding our young talents. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, who took the time to join us and make the Winter Concert a true community event. Gratitude also goes out to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make the gym look so festive – it set the ambience and tone for the whole show.
As we close out this year with holiday melodies in our hearts, we look forward to the upcoming performances from our Division I students (in Kindergarten – Grade 3) during the spring season. The enthusiasm and talent displayed by our older students have set the bar high, and we can't wait to see what our younger performers have in store for us. Wishing you all a joyful and restful holiday season filled with love, laughter, and music!
Winter (Break) is Coming
As we approach the end of 2024, we want to remind everyone about the upcoming schedule for your child(ren). Next week, from December 16th to December 20th, students will have a full week of classes. Following that, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Winter Break will commence from December 21st through January 5th, with classes resuming on Monday, January 6, 2024. To ensure a smooth transition into the break and a positive start to the new term, we kindly ask you to remind your child(ren) to bring home all personal belongings, including water bottles, lunch kits, accessories, and any extra articles of clothing they may have at school.
While the break is a time for relaxation and enjoyment, it's also an opportunity for continued learning. We encourage you to engage your child(ren) in activities that support their foundational skills. Reading, spending time outdoors, and incorporating math discussions into real-world contexts, such as during grocery shopping or calculating time, are excellent ways to reinforce their learning. Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support. We wish you and your family a joyful and restful winter break!

Fitness for the Calgary Food Bank
On Wednesday December 11th, students participated in a fitness workout in their PE class with two cans of food. Thanks to everyone who has brought in donations for the Calgary Food Bank – we are collecting items until Monday December 16, when the boxes will be picked up! Our key items are canned soup and canned tomatoes, but will happily accept: pasta and pasta sauce, peanut butter, canned meat, fish, beans, vegetables and fruit, cereal, rice, and macaroni and cheese.
Update | Christmas Hamper Program
As our Christmas Hamper Program continues, we want to express our gratitude for the incredible generosity shown by the Olympic Heights community. Your support has been heartwarming. A hearty and festive “thank you & merci” to the five parents who stepped up and volunteered to help put the finishing touches on the hampers, next Wednesday. Please be aware we are collecting items right up to next Monday (December 16th), when we'll be wrapping the items and hampers. Thank you for your kindness and for making a difference in the lives of our fellow community members. Your contributions truly embody the spirit of the season!
Lunch Supervision Service Reminders
We'd like to remind everyone of a few lunchroom expectations to ensure a positive experience for students and staff alike. During lunch, we ask that students maintain the same level of respect and good behavior observed in the classroom—showing kindness, resolving differences peacefully, and keeping the environment clean. It's essential for students to bring their utensils and any necessary lunch items, as microwaves or boiling water aren't available for safety reasons. Additionally, we encourage a healthy hydration choice, so please remind and help your child to bring water rather than sugary drinks. Your support in reinforcing these guidelines helps create a respectful and enjoyable lunchtime environment. Thank you for your assistance!
Lost and Found Collection
As we approach the winter break, we would like to bring your attention to our school's “lost and found” collection. We've made several efforts to reunite students with their lost items, including during yesterday's winter concerts, at November’s learning conferences, and through repeated tours with the students. Regrettably, numerous unclaimed items still occupy our lost and found, ranging from clothing to accessories. In the spirit of giving during the holiday season, we will be donating any unclaimed items to support those in need. This gesture aligns with our commitment to fostering a sense of community and generosity among our students. To avoid any unintentional donations, we kindly request you check the lost and found before the Winter Break officially begins. The lost and found will be open during regular school hours for your convenience – just check-in at the main office beforehand. Additionally, we encourage you to label all articles of clothing with your child's name using either permanent ink or high-durability labels. This simple step greatly increases the chances of lost items being returned to their rightful owners. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated!
