Holiday Hampers – An OHS Tradition

As the holiday season approaches, we understand that this time can be especially challenging for some of our families.  In response, we would like to continue our gifts of care this time of year and provide support to some of our families to ensure that they have a wonderful and happy holiday. Please watch for an email message coming shortly with more details and specific information for each grade level. Let's continue to embody the true spirit of the season by spreading love, kindness, and joy throughout our Olympic Heights community. Together, we can make this holiday season brighter for everyone.

Book Bonanza is Back! A Reading Gift for OHS Families

If you’re in the school for next week’s concerts on Thursday, we invite you to visit our complimentary book station located in the plaza by the glass wall. We're passing on a selection of books retired from our library's collection, including novels and picture books, for your family to enjoy and keep. This initiative supports ongoing reading and literacy, giving students the chance to dive into stories that might be new to them. Feel free to select a book (or books!) to take home - they are a gift from us to you, with no returns necessary.

Traffic Safety Update

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules, and speed limits when you are near Olympic Heights, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times. The cold weather, poor conditions, snow plowing, and perhaps, time of year, have once again resulted in an increase in concerns and complaints. School administration is working with Cst. Randy from the CPS, as well as our SCA Community Association, and members of School Council to address these concerns. Please review our Parking and Drop-Off page on the school website for further details. Also, a huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who are outside in the sun, rain, or snow, keeping our students safe. Please say thanks when you see them!

Winter Concert Updates:

Afternoon Assembly:

All grade 4, 5 and 6 students will be performing an afternoon assembly on Thursday, December 12th at 2:00 pm for the Division 1 students to watch. Families are welcome to attend if they wish.

Evening Concert:

All grade 4, 5 and 6 students will be performing in the evening concert on the same day, Thursday, December 12th, for families to watch. Students should arrive back at school for 6:00 pm and head to their homeroom for attendance. The show will begin at 6:30 pm.

Attendance:

If your child (in grade 4, 5, 6) cannot attend the afternoon or evening concerts, please email Ms. Tran as soon as you can. Lmtran@cbe.ab.ca. Every student is assigned a hand bell part, and if they are absent, we will need to have their part covered. Thank you!

Google Classroom Resources:

Check out your child's Google Classroom for links to the songs they are singing. Practicing at home can help increase their confidence and memorization of the song before our performance!

School Improvement Results Report & Development Plan

Each year, schools create a plan to improve student learning, as required by Alberta Education. Our OHS School Development Plan aligns individual school goals with the identified goals in the CBE 2024-27 Education Plan. Each year, schools capture evidence of continuous improvement towards the goals set. In accordance with Alberta Education’s requirements, schools then provide information to school communities by communicating student growth and achievement in an annual report, demonstrating improvement results and next steps. These results support continuous improvement of the quality and effectiveness of education programs provided to students while also improving student learning and achievement. You can view our annual report and plan on our school’s About Us > Our School webpage.

Report to Parents on Fees

Schools are required to report to parents on any fees related to optional items, events and off-site activities/sales. This means all fees collected and the related expenses for each school year (September 1 – August 31). Our report on any fees from the 2023-24 school year is now posted on the school website, also on the About Us > Our School webpage.
