Reminder – OHS School Planning and Engagement Survey
Our Olympic Heights Planning and Engagement Survey will close on March 7, 2025 (next week).
Our School Development Plan and Report to Parents and Guardians on Fees are accessible through our Olympic Heights School website, under the About Us – Our School tab. We encourage you to watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning. We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together and thank you for your support.
Pink Shirt Day & “Be Brave” Hockey Game with the Calgary Hitmen
Wednesday, February 26, was Pink Shirt Day, which aims to raise awareness about bullying prevention. OHS students donned their pink-coloured garb in order to celebrate the movement and build understanding of positive social interactions and bullying prevention. Grade 5 students got a special opportunity to attend the “Be Brave” hockey game at Calgary Saddledome, between the Calgary Hitmen and the Swift Current Broncos. With over 17 000 students attending from across the city, it was an amazing event! The Calgary Hitmen took the win, with a score of 3-0. Huge thanks to our School Council and Parents Association for making this special day possible, and gratitude to all the staff and parent volunteers who attended with students.
Havana Cuban Dance Studio Residency
Next week, we will be dancing in Phys Ed classes, thanks to our School Council and Parents Association who have generously funded for our one-week residency with dance studio, Havana Cuban Dance! Led by Marcos Ravelo, the residency will share an authentic cultural experience with students, using a growth mindset approach: skills can be enhanced through dedication and practice. This method of teaching enables students to develop a love for learning and a resilience to embracing challenges, which is a fundamental life skill. Students will be introduced to a variety of Latin dance styles such as Salsa, Merengue, Flamenco, Cha Cha, and Reggaeton. Details on an end-of-residency student performance will be shared next week!
Dress for the Weather Please!
We expect the continuation of warm weather and rain/snow mix over the weekend to make a sloppy mess in our field next week. Please be sure to have your child dress appropriately for fun and outdoor play including snow pants and rubber boots. You may consider sending some extra socks or pants in your child’s backpack if you know they like to get messy. Thank you!
