Friday Update – Oct. 3, 2025
School Closure Notice
As we hope you are aware, there is currently an ongoing labour negotiation conflict between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the provincial government. As a result, teachers will be on strike; there will be no school beginning Monday, Oct. 6. We want to reassure you that our staff deeply care about our students and are hopeful that this matter will be resolved quickly so that learning can continue without further interruption.
Please note that any school-organised activities scheduled for October, including Photo Day, field trips, and other events, have been cancelled for now. Where possible, these will be rescheduled at a later date once regular school operations resume.
Students will continue to have access to Google Classroom and D2L/Brightspace, however ATA staff will not have access during a strike. ATA members (this includes principals and administrators) will also lose access to their CBE email as well. We encourage parents to visit the CBE Labour Action page at https://cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Labour-Action/Pages/default.aspx for the latest information, as well as links to Alberta Education and Childcare resources.
We greatly appreciate your patience, flexibility, and support during this time. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate these circumstances together.
World Teacher Day
Saturday, October 5 is World Teachers’ Day, a time set aside to recognise the incredible work teachers do to support, inspire, and guide students. At Olympic Heights, we are grateful every day for the dedication and care our teachers bring to the classroom and our community.
This year, World Teachers’ Day comes during a challenging time, as the ATA and the provincial government remain in negotiations. While this has resulted in school closures, it is also a reminder of the essential role teachers play, not only in delivering curriculum, but in building relationships, fostering curiosity, and helping students thrive.
We encourage families to take a moment to thank a teacher in their lives, past or present, for the difference they have made. Even a simple message of gratitude can mean a great deal.
