Educational Transition Requests for the 2025–2026 School Year

Throughout May and June, our staff—including teachers, support staff, and administration—will be working together to thoughtfully create balanced class groupings for the upcoming school year. This process involves significant time, collaboration, and consideration to ensure that all students are placed in learning environments where they can thrive. Multiple perspectives, including student voice, help inform our decisions as we work to build equitable and supportive classroom communities. As part of this process, we invite families to share any insights that may help us better understand your child’s learning needs. The Microsoft Form linked below provides an opportunity for you to share information from a parent perspective. While we review all submissions carefully, please note that completing the form does not guarantee specific placements, as many factors are considered in creating class groupings. We do not accept teacher requests, as our staff are all highly skilled educators, grade assignments may change, and accommodating such requests can be challenging. However, examples of helpful input include:

  • “Please consider placing my twins in separate/same classes.”
  • “My child benefits from a highly structured learning environment.”
  • “If possible, please separate Billy and Sarah, as they tend to distract one another.”

We value your partnership and appreciate the information you share in support of your child’s success at Olympic Heights School.  A request is not a guarantee, as there are numerous factors to be considered when creating groupings. Please complete this by Monday, May 12, 2025 to ensure that transition requests are considered.  Transition requests after this date will not be considered.

Thank you for your thoughtful input and ongoing support.

Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week!

Next week, May 5 – 9, marks Teacher Appreciation Week, a special time to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible contributions of our educators. Teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing and developing the minds of our children, and this week offers a wonderful opportunity to express our gratitude. We encourage all families to join us in showing appreciation through thoughtful gestures. Consider sending a thank-you card, a small token of appreciation, or even a note of gratitude to let our teachers know how much their hard work and dedication mean to us. Let’s come together to make this week memorable for those who educate and inspire our students every day.

Outstanding Fees

This a reminder that many of you have outstanding fees associated with your child’s account that require payment. Typically, the only fees that are school-based are ones that are associated with field trips. These trips are run on a cost recovery basis as we are required to pay for things such as transportation and service provider costs. Unpaid fees can result in a significant impact on the programming we offer at our school such as; limiting our ability to provide student technology, art supplies, library books and various student resources.

For your convenience, payment options of credit and debit are available online through your  MyCBE account. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office.

AMA Patrol Update

In the coming weeks, our Grade 5 students will begin training to join the Grade 6 patrollers for the rest of the year. As they step into their new roles, some of our Grade 6 patrollers will be retiring—thank you for your leadership and commitment! Please show kindness and patience as our new recruits learn the ropes and take on this important responsibility.

Hats On! For Mental Health Day –

Asian Heritage Month

In Canada, May is celebrated as Asian Heritage Month. This commemorative month was officially declared by the Canadian government in May 2002, following the efforts of the Senate and people like Senator Vivienne Poy who advocated for its recognition. The purpose of Asian Heritage Month is to acknowledge the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to the country, as well as to promote and celebrate the diverse cultures and achievements of Asian communities across Canada.

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity to engage in events and activities that highlight the cultural, economic, and social fabric woven by Asian Canadians. Throughout the month, various communities host art exhibits, literary readings, performances, and discussions that explore and celebrate the heritage and diversity of Asian Canadians. These events serve to educate the public on the contributions of Asian communities in shaping Canada's cultural landscape and to foster an understanding of the varied experiences of Asian Canadians.

This celebration is part of a broader acknowledgment of multiculturalism and diversity as central elements of the Canadian identity, offering a chance for all Canadians to learn more about the histories and cultures of Asian Canadians and to reflect on the challenges they have faced, including discrimination and racism, and to celebrate their achievements and contributions to Canadian society. Canadian Jewish Heritage Month

May is also celebrated as Canadian Jewish Heritage Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and honouring the significant contributions of the Jewish community to Canada's social, economic, political, and cultural fabric. This commemoration was officially established in March 2018 when the Canadian Parliament passed a bill that designated May as Canadian Jewish Heritage Month. The bill was sponsored by Michael Levitt, a former Member of Parliament.

Canadian Jewish Heritage Month offers an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant history, heritage, and community life of Jewish Canadians. It provides a platform for Canadians of all backgrounds to learn about the experiences of Jewish people in Canada and their pivotal role in the nation's development. Events during this month typically include cultural exhibitions, educational activities, and community gatherings that highlight the achievements of Jewish Canadians and their ongoing contributions to Canada.

This month serves as a poignant reminder of Canada's diversity and the importance of inclusion, particularly given the historical challenges faced by the Jewish community, including discrimination and antisemitism. It's a time for reflection on past struggles and a celebration of the perseverance, resilience, and success of Jewish Canadians throughout the country's history. (Source: jewishheritage.ca)
