Spring Concert a Resounding Success!
Last night, Olympic Heights School echoed with melodies and cheers as our talented students from grades 1, 2, and 3 took the stage for the annual Spring Concert, a celebration of our Pillars of Care: Care for Yourself, Care for Others, and Care for Our Place. Our young performers impressed, embodying the spirit of the theme through songs like the eco-conscious “Recycle,” the resilience anthem “Get Back Up Again,” the playful “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” and the powerful ensemble finale “Brave”. A special shout-out goes to our grade 5 lighting crew who expertly managed the LED stage lights, adding a colourful flair to the evening’s performance. Heartfelt thanks to all the students, staff, and especially Mrs. Tran, whose dedication and passion for music were instrumental in crafting such a memorable evening. We also extend our gratitude to the parents, families, and everyone who contributed their time and effort, not forgetting those who assisted in the quickest gym cleanup ever! Acknowledgement also goes to Ms. Radomski, for setting up and managing the ReRun Project sneaker donation table (see more information below) – we got quite a few pairs! Thanks everyone!
Earth Day BikeWalkRoll Challenge
Get ready, Olympic Heights! The Active School Club is excited to host the BikeWalkRoll Challenge on April 22nd. We’re encouraging all students to ditch the car and choose eco-friendly transportation methods for their trip to school. Whether it’s biking, walking, scootering, rollerblading, skateboarding, or even unicycling—every roll, step, and pedal counts towards a cleaner environment and promotes active, safe travel. Let's come together to reduce air pollution and set a new record for participation at OHS. Mark your calendars, plan your route, and let’s make this BikeWalkRoll Challenge a huge success. See you on the 22nd!
Earth Day Celebrations & Spirit Day - Elements of Nature
Reminder that Earth Day is on Monday! As a start, classes will be pitching in and cleaning up areas of our school grounds together. We also encourage all students and staff to participate in our Elements Spirit Day by dressing up to represent the natural elements:
- Earth: Wear green, brown, or floral patterns. Think flower crowns, leaf-patterned attire, and jewelry made from natural materials like stone or wood.
- Air: Choose light blue or white, accessorized with feathers, bird motifs, or anything symbolizing the air's flow and grace.
- Water: Dress in shades of blue and aquamarine, complemented by wave patterns or sea creature designs. Water droplet-shaped accessories will highlight this theme beautifully.
- Fire: Show the fiery side with red, orange, and yellow, and incorporate designs like suns, flames, or volcanoes.
Active School Club presents the ReRUN Shoe Project with Olympian Julie-Anne Staehli
The Active School Club is excited to partner with The ReRUN Shoe Project for a donation drive. We're welcoming contributions of new or gently used and clean sneakers for a good cause. Join us in this effort by bringing running shoes suitable for all ages - from children to adults - right up until Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd.
Here's a quick snapshot of The ReRUN Shoe Project:
- They've successfully gathered over 5,800 pairs of running shoes across five Canadian cities, aiding numerous families in maintaining an active lifestyle.
- The initiative was co-founded by Julie-Anne Staehli, a remarkable Canadian Olympian.
- A special gathering is set for Wednesday, April 24th, at 1:00 pm, where Julie-Anne Staehli will meet with the Active School Club to recognize and celebrate our collective contribution to helping others.
Book Bonanza: A Reading Gift for OHS Families
Many families visited our complimentary book station last night, during the spring concert, but there are still lots of great books up for grabs. Located in the plaza by the glass wall, we're passing on a selection of books retired from our library's collection, including novels for students of all ages, as well as home reading books, for your family to enjoy and keep. This initiative supports ongoing reading and literacy, giving students the chance to dive into stories that might be new to them. If you are in the school, feel free to select a book (or books!) to take home - they are a gift from us to you, with no returns necessary.
School Council | A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Olympic Heights Heroes
We're thrilled to report that, thanks to your incredible spirit and dedication, we have filled every volunteer spot for our upcoming casino fundraiser at Elbow River Casino on April 20th and 21st! We were down to the wire, facing a significant shortfall for the critical night shift roles. We sent out a call for heroes, and you answered with overwhelming support. Your readiness to step up and contribute your time has been nothing short of inspiring. Because of you, we're not just going into the fundraiser fully staffed; we're going in with a team backed by the strength of an entire community. This event is pivotal for our school, and your willingness to participate for just a few hours makes all the difference. It's a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together for our children's future. Our deepest gratitude goes out to every volunteer, every parent, every staff member, and to the unstoppable force that is the Olympic Heights community. You've proved once again that we can count on you, not just to meet our goals, but to exceed them. Thank you for being the game-changers, the night-shift heroes, and the heart of Olympic Heights. We're looking forward to a successful fundraiser and to celebrating the victory that your support will make possible for our school. Immense appreciation to the incredible Jane Radiff, casino coordinator, for her tireless efforts to make this event a success!
