Crosswalk and School Zone Safety: A Critical Reminder for All Families
A reminder that safety must always come before convenience during drop‑off and pick‑up.
Please help keep our students safe by:
- Not speeding in the school zone
- Avoiding all U‑turns near the school
- Using marked crosswalks only when crossing
This video outlines strategies for both pedestrians and drivers. Please remember that children learn from what they see. Your actions set the example for safe behaviour around traffic. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.
Report Cards Available On-Line February 24
Starting February 24, families can view report cards online for first term of the 2025-26 school year through MyCBE. Parents and guardians can view, download, and print their child’s report card through their MyCBE account, as paper copies of report cards are no longer sent home by schools. Technical support is available for those needing assistance with the portal.
Helping Kids Learn Impulse Control
At Thursday’s Student Voice meeting, we introduced students to the Stop – Think – Choose approach when they’re faced with big emotions or quick decisions. You can support this at home with a few simple strategies:
- Practice “Stop” – Encourage your child to pause and take a breath before reacting.
- Help them “Think” – Ask guiding questions like, “What are your options?” or “What might happen next?”
- Let them “Choose” – Support them in selecting the safe, respectful, and responsible option.
A few minutes of practice each day, during play, chores, or conflicts, helps children build strong self‑control skills over time. Thank you for partnering with us to help students make thoughtful choices.
Cheering on Our Olympians!
This past week, our students have been buzzing with Olympic excitement! Ever since the Olympic bobsleigh team announcement at OHS, classes have been closely following the Winter Games, cheering on their chosen athletes and the countries they’re rooting for. It’s been wonderful to see students come together in the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and global celebration. As the Winter Olympics conclude on Sunday, we join our students in wishing all athletes the very best of luck in their final events.
Recognising Ramadan
As Ramadan continues, we acknowledge and support the students, staff, and families in our school community who are observing this important month. Many individuals will be fasting from sunrise to sunset and engaging in reflection, prayer, and acts of kindness. We wish everyone observing Ramadan a peaceful and meaningful month.
Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to recognise and celebrate the many contributions, achievements, and stories of Black Canadians and Black communities around the world. Throughout the month, students are engaging in learning that highlights Black excellence, resilience, culture, and history. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn together, reflect, and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our school community.
Pink Shirt Day – February 25
On February 25, we invite all students to join us in supporting Pink Shirt Day by wearing pink. This day promotes kindness, inclusion, and standing up against bullying. By wearing pink, students help send a powerful message that our school is a place where everyone belongs and feels safe.
Bullying Prevention Tip:
Encourage your child to be an upstander, not a bystander. If they see someone being treated unkindly, they can offer help, invite the student to join them, or seek assistance from a trusted adult.
Thank you for encouraging your child to participate!
