Open House and Book Fair – September 25th, 2025

We invite you to join us for our Open House on Thursday, September 25, from 4:30–6:30 PM. This evening will serve as a chance to meet your child’s teacher, visit classrooms, and connect as a school community. During that time, we will have our Scholastic Bookfair setup in the plaza. Each classroom will be having designated presentations, at specific times, to help parents understand any particulars about their child’s class. You do not need to sign up in advance, simply join one of the three presentations to learn more about the classroom.

Orange Shirt Day – Friday September 26th

On Friday, September 26, Olympic Heights School will join schools across Canada in recognizing Orange Shirt Day. This important day is an opportunity for students, staff, and families to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember those who did not return, and reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation. We encourage everyone to wear an orange shirt to show that “Every Child Matters.” Together, we will continue to build understanding, respect, and a commitment to truth and reconciliation in our school community.

Terry Fox Run

Each year our school supports the Terry Fox Run, as we believe that Terry Fox is a true Canadian Hero who demonstrated the qualities of perseverance, resilience, and selflessness while waging his own personal battle against cancer.

On September 25 at approximately 1:15 PM, we will kick off our Terry Fox School Run with an assembly celebrating our Canadian hero.

A course approximately 0.5 km in length will be marked on the school field. Participants will complete as many circuits of the field as they feel comfortable with and collect a popsicle stick after each circuit is complete. We are asking families to donate online to the Terry Fox Foundation at www.terryfoxrun.org and search for Olympic Heights School. Or click this link! Donations will be accepted until Monday, September 26th. Kindergarten morning classes will run with their older buddies in the morning. A friendly reminder, please do not bring dogs onto the school field because we must abide by the City of Calgary bylaws.

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. You must have your Volunteer Registration form filled out in School Engage and have a current police clearance to volunteer. We would appreciate your assistance! Thanks to everyone for supporting this important event.

Grade 6 AMA Patrollers Training

We’re pleased to share that our Grade 6 AMA Patrollers will be completing their training next week at the crosswalk in front of the school. This vital program plays a key role in keeping our students safe, and we truly appreciate your support as they develop their skills.

Please be patient during this time as they practice. You’ll see them hard at work during the following hours:

  • Morning: 8:45 – 8:58 AM
  • Afternoon: 3:30 – 3:45 PM (12:57 – 1:00 PM on Fridays)

A friendly reminder to all drivers: when the patrollers have their stop signs out, please remain stopped until they direct you to proceed (the stop signs will be returned behind their backs). Pedestrians should wait behind the patrollers until it’s safe to cross, which is indicated when their stop signs are out and they are no longer blocking the crosswalk with their arms.

Your encouragement will go a long way in helping them feel confident in their new roles! Thank you for your support!

Volunteers Needed – Olympic Heights Parent Association Casino

The Olympic Heights Parent Association is thrilled to announce its upcoming Fundraising Casino, happening November 1–2, 2025 at Cowboys Casino in Calgary. This exciting event is not only a great way to support our school, but also a fun opportunity to meet and connect with fellow OHS parents. Together, we have the potential to raise up to $70,000 to enhance our children’s educational experience.

Proceeds from the event will help fund essential learning tools and resources, including laptops, iPads, SMART Boards, robotics equipment, books, gym gear, music and art supplies. These contributions directly benefit our students by enriching classrooms and creating dynamic, engaging learning environments.

We truly rely on the support of our community to make this event a success.
