Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and that your family dodged the many illnesses that have been circulating. Students and staff returned, ready to learn and to make the most out of the remaining school year.

Provincial Assessments – Grades K through 3

Once again this year, the provincial government has mandated provincial assessments for students in grades kindergarten through 3. In January, grades 1 through 3 will administer their second of three assessments to students, while students in kindergarten will experience this standardised testing for the first time. These standardised assessments provide information regarding key numeracy and literacy skills.  At the school level, these assessments provide teachers important information on how to best support each students next steps in learning.  For more information regarding these assessments, please refer to the CBE parent information sheet

 Reminders from the library

As we head into another season of student book exchanges, we appreciate your ongoing support to ensure that library books that are taken home are kept “safe.” This means keeping books away from water, pets and younger siblings to avoid damage.  We also remind students that returning books in a timely fashion is a joint responsibility between the child and mom/dad so that books aren’t lost.  Grades 4/5/6 exchange books every other week; Grades 1/2/3 exchange weekly (Kindergarten classes will come for the first time next week to choose a book).  Because our younger students come weekly, below is a reminder of which classes come on which day. If you are unaware of when your child has library, please make a note.  Children need to return their books to select a new book for the week, so please help them remember!

  • Mondays – All kindergarten classes and Grade 3 rooms 7 and 8 (Paul and Marshall)
  • Tuesdays – Grade 1 rooms 5 and 6 (Dressel and Khuu), Grade 2 room 19 (Cundall) and Grade 3 rooms 9 and 10 (Gill and Thorpe)
  • Wednesdays – Grade 1 room 4 (Preuss)
  • Thursdays – Grade 2 rooms 17 and 18 (Bremner and Jacobson)
