Happy Lunar New Year!

As we welcome the Year of the Snake, we celebrate the qualities of wisdom, resilience, and transformation. This festive occasion is a opportunity for our students to learn about the rich traditions, cultural celebrations, and meaningful customs that bring families and communities together. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and prosperous New Year!

Change in the Weather

Cold weather is expected to return this weekend and into next week. As colder temperatures approach, please remember to dress your child(ren) appropriately for the conditions. Layers are best, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, and sturdy footwear to keep them comfortable and protected during outdoor activities. Ensuring they are properly dressed will help them stay warm and enjoy their day safely. We may be holding indoor breaks, and cancelling our patrols if conditions are below -20. Thanks for your attention to this.

Learnings with Hal Eagletail

This week was our second opportunity working with Elder Hal Eagletail, who shared his deep knowledge of Indigenous governance, sky science, and land teachings with our students. Through storytelling and wisdom passed down through generations, he provided valuable insights into the interconnectedness of people, nature, and the cosmos. We are grateful for this opportunity to learn from Elder Hal and to deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives. We look forward to his follow-up visit in May.

Unplug and Disconnect, Anyone?

Many of us rely on technology to stay connected. Be it work, social media, or staying informed, sometimes, disconnecting seems impossible. Dr. Greg Wells, in his latest blog, “The Focus Superpower: Unplug and Disconnect,” explores how deliberately stepping away from digital devices can enhance focus, lower stress, and improve overall well-being. He highlights the negative impact of constant connectivity—such as mental exhaustion, sleep disturbances, and anxiety—while underscoring the importance of mindful habits in navigating today’s always-online world.

Jan. 31 PD day

While students may not have had class today, staff certainly did. Our focus of our professional development was equity in learning. The goal of equity in education is to identify, remove and prevent systemic barriers and discriminatory practices to help students reach their full potential. Staff explored concepts such as equity vs. equality, what does equity in instruction mean, how can be plan activities that are more equitable for all learners, and how can our assessments of these tasks also take this concept into account.
