Picnic in the Park Lots of Fun!
Yesterday evening, the Olympic Heights School community gathered for a fun-filled evening at the much-anticipated "Picnic in the Park," organized by the School Council & OHSPA. The event, held on the grass near the Gaga Ball Pit, saw families spread out blankets and savour a variety of delectable offerings from numerous food trucks. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, chatter, and the joy of early summer, making it a perfect opportunity for families to connect and unwind together. The event ran smoothly, thanks to the thoughtful planning by School Council Events Coordinators, Leslie Hall and Laura Osadetz. With everyone enjoying the beautiful weather and great company, it was truly a fun and memorable event that highlighted the strong sense of community at OHS.
Kindergarten Celebration Success!
Thanks to all of our families who came out today for our Kindergarten Celebration. It was a lovely event, where our youngest students were acknowledged for the learning and growth they have achieved and completion of their Kindergarten program. Families were treated to singing, dancing, and pageantry, under the direction of Ms. Tran, along with Ms. Demers, Ms. Meier, and Ms. Boehm. Thank you to everyone who made this such a special day for our Kindergarten students and families. We can’t wait to see you in grade one!
National Indigenous Peoples Day: Renewing Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Olympic Heights School will be renewing our TRC Commitment as part of our ongoing efforts to support reconciliation and embrace Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing, and knowing. Over this past year, in alignment with the CBE Education Plan and in recognition of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, we have been committed to building understanding among staff, students, and our community about the benefits of Indigenous ways of knowing for all students. By listening to and appreciating the differences among people and cultures, we have strived to foster mutually beneficial relationships across our entire school community. We will share our commitment for the 2024-25 school year next week, on our school’s website.
Year-End Individual Program Plans (IPPs) for Review
Parents of students with Individual Program Plans (IPPs) should have received the final copies for the year-end review. These final IPPs include a comprehensive year-end summary detailing the conditions for success, Priority Learning Cycles, specific transition notes, and strategies and supports that have contributed to the student's achievements. We kindly request parents to sign the completed IPPs and return them to the school as soon as possible, in order to ensure they are properly filed and ready for the upcoming year's teachers to access. Thank you to all families for returning these promptly. If you have not yet received the year-end IPP, please contact your child's teacher. Please note that all signed year-end review pages must be returned by Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
School Library Books Due on Monday (June 17)
We would like remind families that all books checked out from the school library are required to be returned by Monday. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, our library is undergoing a thorough cataloguing and inventory process. Please note that students who do not return their books by the due date may incur charges for the cost of the book, which will be added as a fee to their Power School account. For further details on our policies regarding overdue or damaged books, please visit our Learning Commons / Library webpage. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Reminder of our on-going “Book Bonanza”, located in the learning plaza, where we are offering up “retired” books to students and families to take home to keep. There are a wide variety of titles for all ages, and many have already been scooped up by eager readers for the summer break. If you’re visiting the school over the next two weeks, stop by our display in the plaza. Again, any books taken are yours to keep and enjoy!
