Olympic Heights School's TRC Commitment for 2025-2026

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Olympic Heights School is proud to continue our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action into the 2025–2026 school year. Building on the work of the past year, we remain focused on Call to Action 63.3, deepening our efforts to learn about and through Indigenous knowledges in order to strengthen students’ capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect.

Spirit - To Be: We will continue to create and expand opportunities for students, staff, and families to build and nurture meaningful learning relationships with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers. These ongoing connections will deepen our collective understanding and foster a spirit of reciprocity and respect.

Heart - To Belong: We will continue identifying and broadening areas across the curriculum where Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing, and knowing can be thoughtfully embedded. Building on this foundation, we will design responsive learning tasks, and land based learning opportunities that honour and reflect Indigenous perspectives and knowledge systems.

Through these commitments, Olympic Heights School strives to contribute meaningfully to reconciliation and the creation of a more inclusive society. We look forward to engaging our entire school community in this ongoing journey of understanding, respect, and shared learning.

 Stampede Breakfast

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, families, and community members who joined us for our Stampede Breakfast! It was a wonderful morning filled with laughter, music, and community spirit. Your presence helped make the event truly special, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to come together and celebrate. Thank you for your continued support and for making our school community such a vibrant and welcoming place! Special thanks to the Stampede Committee for considering OHS and bringing this to our school community.

Celebrating Our Grade 6 Farewell – June 24th

We are excited to celebrate our departing sixth-grade students as they come to the end of their time here at Olympic Heights School and prepare to head off to junior high school and new adventures. They will be greatly missed! The Farewell ceremony for Grade 6 students and their families will take place on June 24 at 9:15 AM, with doors opening at 9:00 AM. Students are encouraged to dress for the special celebration but should bring a change of clothes for the afternoon, which will feature activities in the classroom with their peers. A special thank you goes to the Grade 6 parent volunteers who are helping to make this event memorable for our departing students.

OHS Sports and Activity Day – June 25th

In the morning, students will take part in FitSet Ninja during their scheduled Phys Ed time.
In the afternoon, various stations will be set up. Students who did not have Phys Ed in the morning will have the opportunity to experience FitSet Ninja as one of the afternoon stations.   Please ensure your children come dressed in comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing suitable for physical activity. They should wear outdoor running shoes and bring a water bottle. As this is an active day, we recommend packing a few extra healthy items in their lunch. The event will proceed rain or shine, with activities moving indoors if needed due to weather.

Student Safety in the Community

As summer approaches and students begin to spend more time outdoors, it’s a good time to review some important safety reminders. With the increase in free time and activities, children may find themselves in situations where being aware and prepared is key.

Please take a moment to speak with your child about staying safe in the community. Encourage them to stay with friends or in groups, avoid isolated areas, and always let a trusted adult know where they are going. Remind them to trust their instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to walk away and seek help.

It’s also helpful to create a simple safety plan for when they are alone. Make sure they know key phone numbers, stick to familiar and well-lit routes, and understand the importance of not sharing personal information with strangers.

By working together, we can help ensure that all children enjoy a safe, fun, and memorable summer.

Library Year-End

If your child has an overdue library book, our library assistant Mrs. Sjogren may be in touch asking you to help your child locate the book at home. This year we offered families a voluntary option of replacing lost or damaged books to help keep our collection up-to-date. Mrs. Sjogren will provide book replacement info if you wish to get a new copy of any book you can’t find. Costs for replacing lost or damaged books are not applied to your MyCBE account fees.

Online Report Card Access
Online report cards will be available for viewing from June 25, 2025, through July 25, 2025 (8:00 a.m.). During this period, legal guardians and independent students can access K–12 report cards online. For additional support with Attendance, Assessment, and Reporting—including helpful videos and guides—please visit Technical Support for Students & Parents.

Busing and Transportation Registration

Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-2026 school year. To find out if you are within the busing zone, visit the walk zone/bus zone page and enter your address.

If you are within the bus zone, registration is now available through your MyCBE account

Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.

We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 22 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 22 deadline, it may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025.

Reminder: Last Day of School and Early Dismissal on Thursday June 26

We would like to remind families that June 26 is the last day of school for students, with an early dismissal at 12:23 PM. Busing will follow the early dismissal schedule. There is no lunch supervision on June 26, but please ensure your child still has a snack for the half-day. Please be prepared for this change in regular scheduling, and ensure that students are picked up promptly. Thank you for your awareness and support!
