Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers: A Successful Appreciation Tea

The Volunteer Appreciation Tea was a tremendous success! We enjoyed delightful music and songs from our talented student performers, all thanks to Ms. Tran's wonderful organization. Our grade 6 servers provided excellent service, making the event even more special. Thank you to all the school staff who provided homemade treats and goodies, and thanks to Woodbine Safeway (i.e., Ms. Crozier’s husband, Dale) for providing delicious baked goods, as well. Last, but not least, thanks to our students for the incredible art they made to beautify the learning plaza, which our parent volunteers took home with them, as an additional token of our appreciation.

A heartfelt thank you to all our amazing volunteers who have dedicated their time to our school community this year. Whether you have helped with off-site student activities, contributed to fundraisers like the book fair or casino night, collaborated with the School Council & Parents Association, supported our school library, ensured student safety at the Kiss & Drop zone, or participated in the many other volunteer efforts, your contributions have been invaluable. Your dedication and support make Olympic Heights such an incredible place. Thank you once again for everything you do!

Scooter Rack and Best Practices

We are excited to announce the installation of our brand new scooter rack at Olympic Heights, made possible by the efforts of the Active Student Club and Room 13, in partnership with Ever Active Schools and the OHS Parent Association. This dedicated rack, situated behind the school between the Grade 6 stairs and the plant park, provides secure parking for up to 20 scooters during school hours.

Scooter Rack Best Practices:

WHERE: The scooter rack is located behind the school, between the Grade 6 stairs and the plant park.

WHAT: for scooter storage during school hours. Bikes should be stored at the bike racks on the field.

HOW:

  • Bring a lock (the scooter rack is designed for use with padlocks)
  • Position scooter in slot with front wheel towards rack
  • Take a chain from both sides of the rack and overlap them across the scooter downtube (vertical bar).
  • Attach the padlock to a ring from both chains
  • Remember your key or code!

All Sport One

Sport Calgary is non-profit civic partner of the City of Calgary that works to assist, influence, and support community sport. Each year, they run an event called All Sport One Day, that provides youth the opportunity to try up to 4 different sports for free at locations across Calgary. The general idea is to provide kids a free opportunity to discover sport, without parents having to commit to a full-length program. The event is for ages 6-17. All Sport One Day this year is on Saturday June 15. The event website is https://sportcalgary.ca/all-sport-one-day. Registration is open now until June 11 at 11:59pm.

Important Notice: Library Book Return and Inventory Update

We would like to inform you that today, June 7, was the final day for students to check out new books from our library. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, our library will undergo a thorough cataloguing and inventory process. To facilitate this, all checked-out books must be returned by Monday, June 17 - sooner if possible! Please note that students who do not return their books by the due date may incur charges for the cost of the book, which will be added as a fee to their Power School account. For further details on our policies regarding overdue or damaged books, please visit our Learning Commons / Library webpage. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Apply for School Bus Transportation by June 16

Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2024-2025 school year. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year. Registration is available using your MyCBE account. Families must register by Sunday, June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. CBE Transportation will continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. A Commitment to Learning and Celebrating Indigenous Cultures

June is National Indigenous History Month, a month to celebrate the cultures, traditions, and experiences of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Canada. This year's theme is "inspiring our youth for change," aiming to empower the next generation through pride, cultural knowledge, and education. Join us in celebrating National Indigenous History Month and our ongoing journey toward Truth and Reconciliation. Staff, students, and families can also spend time in the community celebrating as part of Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary.  In line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, OHS is committed to promoting Education for ReconciliACTION. As we observe National Indigenous History Month and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we renew our dedication to learning, celebrating, and honouring Indigenous cultures and resilience.  We invite the OHS community to participate in the events and activities taking place throughout the month.

Recognizing Diversity and Acceptance at OHS

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate and support 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. During this month, we acknowledge the important contributions people of diverse orientations and identities have made to history and society. We emphasize the importance of creating welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe environments for all 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.

Kindergarten Celebration

Our Kindergarten Celebration is on June 14, 2024! This special event will celebrate the completion, achievement, and growth of our Kindergarten students over the course of the school year. It's a wonderful opportunity for families to join us in recognizing the hard work and progress of our young learners. We look forward to celebrating this milestone together and honoring the fantastic journey our Kindergarten students have had this year.

Are You Up to Date with School Fees?

As we approach the end of the school year, please check your MyCBE/PowerSchool account to ensure all school fees have been paid. Fees are charged to cover the gap between the cost of programs and services and the funding provided by the province. No child is ever denied access to learning or activities because of an inability to pay. If you are unable to pay fees all at once, flexible payment options are available. Please contact the main office at 403-777-8370 to discuss, or drop by the school during regular hours. Thank you for keeping your account up to date!
