Educational Transition Requests for the 2026-2027 School Year
During the months of May and June, Olympic Heights staff—including teachers, support staff, and administration—work collaboratively to thoughtfully develop balanced class groupings for the upcoming school year. This process requires careful consideration, collaboration, and time to ensure that all students are placed in learning environments where they can be successful. Decisions are informed by multiple perspectives, including student voice, as we aim to create equitable, supportive, and well‑balanced classroom communities. As part of this process, families are invited to share information that may help us better understand their child’s learning needs. The Microsoft Form linked below provides an opportunity to offer input from a parent perspective. While all submissions are reviewed carefully, please note that completing the form does not guarantee specific placements, as many factors must be considered when creating class groupings. We are unable to accommodate teacher requests, as all staff are skilled educators, grade assignments may change, and honoring such requests can impact overall balance.
Examples of helpful input include:
- “Please consider placing my twins in the same/separate classes.”
- “My child benefits from a highly structured learning environment.”
- “If possible, please separate Billy and Sarah, as they tend to distract one another.”
We value your partnership and appreciate the thoughtful information you share in support of your child’s success at Olympic Heights School. Please note that transition requests are not guarantees. To ensure your input is considered, forms must be submitted by Monday, May 11, 2026. Requests received after this date will not be reviewed.
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

Registration for the Upcoming School Year
As we plan for the upcoming school year, we have noticed that our registration numbers for next year are currently lower than we had projected. If you are aware of any students who will be attending next year or of prospective families who may be interested in registering, we kindly ask that you encourage them to connect with the school office as soon as possible. Early confirmation of enrolment helps us with planning and staffing for the year ahead. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us spread the word within our school community.
School Playground Use During the School Day
Recently we have had to remind individuals that our school playground is not available for use during school hours. This is an important safety measure. During the instructional day, staff need to be able to clearly identify all adults on school grounds and ensure they are authorized to be here. This includes students and families who have recently been dismissed from our kindergarten classes. When additional adults are present on the playground, it becomes much more difficult to quickly determine who is a parent, who is staff, and who may be an unknown individual. Limiting playground use during school hours helps us maintain secure supervision, protects students, and supports a safe and focused learning environment for everyone. We appreciate your understanding and partnership in keeping our school community safe.
Wasp Weather
As the warmer weather returns, wasps become more active around school grounds. While staff actively monitor and address nests when identified, insects can still be present during outdoor learning and play. We ask families of students with known allergies, particularly to insect stings, to please ensure that emergency medication (such as EpiPens) is current, clearly labeled, and available at school. Keeping medical information and medication up to date helps us respond quickly and safely should a reaction occur.
Outdoor Footwear
As the weather warms up, we would like to remind families that students are still required to have separate indoor and outdoor footwear at school. While students may be spending more time outside, cleats are not considered appropriate outdoor footwear for use at school. For safety and facility care reasons, students should arrive with footwear suitable for school grounds and change into their designated indoor shoes while inside the building. We recognize that it can be challenging for the school to closely monitor what footwear students arrive in each day, and we appreciate your continued support in helping students follow this expectation.
Volunteer Tea –
A reminder that we are inviting all of our volunteers to the annual Volunteer Tea on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 9:15 AM. We deeply appreciate the time and effort each of you has dedicated to our school community this year. Whether you assisted with off-site student activities, participated in fundraisers such as the book fair or casino night, worked alongside the School Council and Parents Association, supported our school library, ensured student safety at the Kiss & Drop zone, or engaged in other volunteer initiatives, your contributions have made a remarkable difference and we would love for you to join us for the tea. Please RSVP by May 8th through this link: https://forms.office.com/r/UPubYHG74s

Hats On! For Mental Health Day
Next week, we are excited to take part in Mental Health Week in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, our school will participate in “Hats On! For Mental Health Day.” Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favourite hats as a visible show of support and as a way to spark meaningful conversations about mental health and well‑being. Together, through awareness, kindness, and connection, we continue to make Olympic Heights a caring and supportive place where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive.
Asian Heritage Month
May is recognized across Canada as Asian Heritage Month, a time to honour and celebrate the rich histories, diverse cultures, and meaningful contributions of Asian Canadians. Established in 2002, this month provides opportunities to learn about the lasting impact Asian communities have had—and continue to have—on Canada’s social, cultural, and economic landscape. Throughout May, communities engage in activities such as art exhibits, performances, literary events, and discussions that highlight the traditions, experiences, and achievements of Asian Canadians. Asian Heritage Month also encourages reflection on the challenges faced by Asian communities, including racism and discrimination, while celebrating resilience, cultural pride, and ongoing contributions. This observance reinforces the importance of inclusion, respect, and multiculturalism as core values of Canada.
Canadian Jewish Heritage Month
May is recognized as Canadian Jewish Heritage Month, a time to honour the history, heritage, and lasting contributions of Jewish Canadians. Established by Parliament in 2018, this month acknowledges the significant role Jewish communities have played in shaping Canada’s social, cultural, political, and economic landscape. Throughout the month, Canadians are encouraged to engage in learning through cultural events, educational opportunities, and community celebrations that highlight Jewish history and experiences. Canadian Jewish Heritage Month also provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by Jewish Canadians, including antisemitism, while celebrating the resilience, perseverance, and ongoing contributions of the Jewish community. This observance reinforces the importance of inclusion, understanding, and respect within our diverse society. (Source: jewishheritage.ca)
Outstanding Fees Reminder
This is a friendly reminder that some families currently have outstanding fees on their child’s school account. Most school-based fees are related to field trips, which operate on a cost-recovery basis to cover expenses such as transportation and service provider fees. Unpaid fees can significantly impact the programs and resources available at our school, including student technology, art supplies, library materials, and other learning supports. For your convenience, payments can be made online using credit or debit through your MyCBE account. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the main office.
