Grade 4 Students Invited to Grand Opening of Sam Centre

On Wednesday May 29, Grade 4 Room 14 went on a special field trip to the new Sam Centre at the Stampede Grounds. It was the opening day for this amazing interactive museum and we were honoured to be one of the very first classes to experience it! There were so many wonderful things to do there. There was a parade activity where we used an iPads to customize characters. The characters then appeared in an animation of the Stampede Parade on a giant screen that stretches the length of the wall.  Another area was dedicated to the music of the Stampede. We selected songs and used a mixer to modify them the way we liked and used headphones to hear our creations. A highlight was an immersive multimedia show that brought the sights and sounds, history and traditions of the Calgary Stampede to life. The floor moves and the screen is all around you!

Our educational program there was about the eras of Calgary history through the lens of the Stampede. It was a scavenger hunt that took us through all of the galleries and brought our social studies curriculum to life. We learned about the important people and events that happened to make Calgary what it is today.  One of the best parts of the day was a picnic lunch outside on the new grass!  It was extra special because the sprinklers went off and left us laughing and scrambling so we did not get too wet! Good thing it was a gorgeous, sunny day!

If you want to put your face on a Stampede poster, explore the history of pancake breakfasts and see the art and artifacts of The Greatest Outdoor Show on earth, we recommend the Sam Centre.  https://samcentre.calgarystampede.com/

Grade 6 Outdoor School Adventure at YMCA Camp Chief Hector

This week, our Grade 6 students had an incredible experience at Outdoor School at YMCA Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis. Nestled in Bow Valley, with great views of Yamnuska and the Rocky Mountains, students participated in a wide range of activities such as team building on the challenge course, the Predator vs. Prey game, shelter building, and a day-long exploration hike. These activities extended their classroom learning into the natural world, helping them develop social skills and a deeper appreciation for the environment. We are immensely grateful to Ms. Million, Ms. Riegert, Ms. McNeil, Ms. Yanchula, Mr. Eakins, and Mr. Barkley for volunteering their time to chaperone the students and make this enriching experience possible. Their dedication and support are invaluable to our school community. As well, we extend our heartfelt thanks to parents for trusting us to keep their children safe and allowing them to be part of this unforgettable experience. Gratitude!

Are You Up to Date with School Fees?

As we approach the end of the school year, please check your MyCBE/PowerSchool account to ensure all school fees have been paid. Fees are charged to cover the gap between the cost of programs and services and the funding provided by the province. No child is ever denied access to learning or activities because of an inability to pay. If you are unable to pay fees all at once, flexible payment options are available. Please contact the main office at 403-777-8370 to discuss, or drop by the school during regular hours. Thank you for keeping your account up to date!
