We’re Thankful!

As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to express how thankful we are to have such a wonderful, supportive community here at Olympic Heights School. Your dedication to your children's education, along with the trust you place in our staff, makes our school a truly special place. From our amazing students who inspire us daily, to the families who volunteer, participate, and engage with us, we are grateful for each of you. Together, we continue to build a strong, caring environment where every child can reach new heights. Thank you for being an essential part of our school’s success!

School Picture Day

Say cheese? School photos were completed yesterday, Oct. 10th and students and staff cleaned up beautifully! If you are interested in ordering, watch for proofs and information about ordering to come in roughly 3-4 weeks.

Fired Drill Fun

Our second fire drill was another success! October 7 marked our kindergarten students’ first experience, and they performed magnificently. We do recognise that some students can be afraid, as the alarm is quite noisy, however our purpose is preparedness, so students know what to do in an emergency. We also suggest families develop and review a family plan in case you do need to evacuate your home. When students make connections between home and school, learning is reinforced and things “make sense.”  We will hold one more fire drill before Christmas, and we will be practicing our lock down in the month of November. Emergency drills are required for all CBE schools.

OurSCHOOL Student Survey – Grades 4, 5, & 6

Students in grades 4-6 will be participating in an anonymous online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school. The survey allows students to share their feedback on their experiences at school, the school environment, and school improvement programs. Other survey measures include topics such as behaviours and attitudes linked to student success, emotional and social well-being and physical health. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher, if you have questions.

Donate to Jacket Racket

There is still time to donate extra winter jackets and clothing. Jacket Racket donations can be dropped off at the Olympic Heights office from until October 31. Gently used items we will be collecting include winter jackets, snow pants, winter boots, hats and mitts. We kindly ask that donated items be clean and in good condition.

Lost and Found

On occasion we will be including a photo of our “Lost and Found.” If you see an item that looks familiar, please ask your child to visit the hallway near the fish tanks in the Plaza or email us at olympicheights@cbe.ab.ca

Demographic Verification Forms

The deadline for families to complete Demographic Verification Forms passed on Friday, Sept. 20. A number of students do not have a completed Demographic Verification Form for the 2024-25 school year. Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, communication was sent to parents / legal guardians who had not completed Demographic Verification Forms for the 2024-25 school year. This communication will continue biweekly throughout the month of October.

Demographic Verification Forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes. If forms remain incomplete, it may result in a reduction in funding for the Calgary Board of Education. Please be sure to complete yours as soon as possible!
