Take Me Outside and Waste Reduction Week
Oct. 21-25 marks “Take Me Outside Day” which celebrates outdoor learning. Educators across Canada will be recognising the importance of outdoor learning and tuning into our natural word. Classes will be connecting with the outdoors, reducing waste, and biking, walking or rolling to school to help promote awareness of the value of the environment and our outdoor spaces. More information can be found at takemeoutside.ca
Bike/Walk/Roll to School – Oct. 23
Help your child to plan for our bike/walk/roll to school day next Wednesday, October 23rd. They might even want to DANCE to school in preparation for our school dance! Thanks to our own Ms. Radomski for championing this initiative.
Halloween Dance presented by School Council & OHSPA
Did someone say dance? Drop the needle! (old Haywire reference…). On Thursday, October 24, School Council & OHSPA invite you to a Halloween Dance! Running from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM, there will be a DJ, a photo booth, games, and more. Dressing up is encouraged and students must be accompanied by an adult – there is no supervision provided. Please, no weapons, masks, or scary/inappropriate costumes.
OKA Apple Pick Up
A reminder that Sun-Oka apple pick-up will be on Monday, October 21st, between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. You can collect your apples by the main entrance to the school, at the bottom of the stairs.
If you are unable to pick up your apples during this time, please email fundraising@ohsparent.com to make alternate arrangements.
Thank you for supporting this event, and we look forward to seeing you!
Grade 6 Students Jump for Jumpingpound
Our grade six classes have been exploring nature through their fieldtrip to Jumpingpound Demonstration Forest. Students immersed themselves in the wonders of a forest ecosystem, exploring its intricate relationships and diverse plant and animal life. Guided by knowledgeable educators from Inside Education, classes engaged in hands-on activities that highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship, learning how to protect and preserve their natural surroundings. Tied into “Take Me Outside Day” on Wednesday, the day was filled with discovery as students observed wildlife, used techniques to measure and identify various tree species and discussed the vital role forests play in sustaining our planet, fostering a deep appreciation for nature and the responsibility to care for it.
Dress for the Weather
“If you don’t like the weather in Calgary, wait 20 minutes and it will change.” While this is great news in the middle of a cold spell, and a chinook is on the horizon, it also applies to our fair fall weather. Coats, gloves or mittens, and warm hats or toques are essential items to keep our students warm when they are outside for learning or play. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated, as it plays a significant role in setting your child up for success.
