Diwali Wishes
In the midst of Diwali, celebrated this year from October 29 to November 2, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all in our school community who observe this special occasion. May the Festival of Lights bring joy, peace, and prosperity to you and your loved ones. We hope your celebrations are filled with light, laughter, and meaningful moments with family and friends. Happy Diwali to all who celebrate!
Halloween Festivities
Today saw many students and staff take the opportunity to dress up in a variety of costumes and outfits for Halloween. School spirit remains alive and well. For families who are participating, we want to wish our students a fun and safe evening of trick-or-treating. Whether you're dressing up, collecting treats, or enjoying spooky decorations, we hope the night is filled with laughter and excitement. Please remind children to stay visible, travel in groups, and check treats before enjoying them. Have a wonderful Halloween, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school with stories to share and smiles to spare! And Go Jays Go!
Gratitude to OHS Support Staff!
We want to take a moment to recognize the incredible efforts of our support staff during the recent teacher job action. Their dedication has been instrumental in keeping our school running smoothly. From organizing materials and storage areas, and maintaining clean, safe workspaces to assisting families and preparing classrooms for a fresh start, their hard work has made a meaningful difference. We especially appreciated the “Welcome Back” sign for students and teachers! We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our school community and are thankful for a positive return for all.
Fall Break and Remembrance Day Assembly
Many questions have arisen regarding fall break. Fall break remains in place for all CBE schools. This year’s CBE fall break for students begins on Saturday, Nov. 8 and runs through to Wednesday Nov. 13. Students return to class on Thursday, Nov. 13. Our school Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Friday Nov. 7 at 10:45AM. Please understand that due to reduced preparation time, this may be a scaled-back version of our typical Remembrance Day assembly, however we view this as an exceptionally important opportunity for students and our learning community. Parents are welcome for the sombre celebration. We hope everyone enjoys a restful and thoughtful fall break.
Veteran’s Food Bank
OHS is collecting donations for the Veteran’s Food Bank. Please consider sending non-perishable food items (if you are able) to donate to this worthy cause. Donations will also be available during our Remembrance Day ceremony.
Olympic Heights School – Jacket Racket
Olympic Heights School is once again supporting the Jacket Racket winter coat drive. The annual community initiative helps provide warm winter wear to over 1,500 students across Calgary. From November 3rd to November 14th, we will be accepting gently used winter items at the Olympic Heights School Main Office. Requested donations include winter jackets, snow pants, winter boots, and hats/mitts Please ensure that all items are clean and in good condition before donating. Thank you for helping keep Calgary kids warm this winter!
Thanks for the Support!
Deep gratitude to all of the families expressing concern and support during the recent labour action. Many students (and parents) wore red on Wednesday, shared messages of support, and even sent kind notes or treats. Special thanks to Coach Hill Subway for delivering cookies for staff. Kindness is always dearly appreciated!
Fall Back!
It’s time to adjust our clocks once again. Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2:00AM our clocks fall back one hour. Remember to adjust yours so you can be on time.
