Olympic Heights Update - Sept. 27, 2024
Learning Conferences Gratitude
Thanks to all our families who came out for our first round of learning conferences these past two days – it was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces. Thanks as well to our teachers for staying late on Thursday night to learn about their students. A final thank you, merci, sīyísgáàs, 谢谢 to our amazing School Council for providing dinner giving teachers energy for the evening’s meetings. Our next round of learning conferences will be occurring on November 28 and 29, 2024.
Traffic Safety
Our intrepid OHS patrol teams were out this week, helping students and families cross the street in a safe manner. Thanks to everyone who crossed with them, and to drivers who demonstrated patience and understanding this first week of service.
Members of the CPS traffic unit visited OHS this past week, watching for speeding, jaywalking and U-turns. Please remember that convenience cannot trump safety. While a certain action might be quick and easy, it can set a bad example for our students.
Apple Fundraiser
Back by popular demand, the Olympic Heights Parents Association is pleased to announce that we will be running the Apple Fundraiser again this year! We have partnered up with Sun-Oka Fruit Farms, an award-winning Okanagan orchard to sell their delicious farm-fresh apples. Our apple sales deadline is October 9, with delivery on October 21. You can purchase your apples here.
Apples will be available for pickup at the school on October 21st from 3:13 - 5:30
Orange Shirt Day
As part of our ongoing work with truth and reconciliation, our Olympic Heights recognition of Orange Shirt Day was held yesterday, Sept. 26. School participation was excellent as the halls were filled with orange. There are many opportunities for families to participate in local events. Check this link for happenings around our city.
Just Like You
Students K through 6 will be participating in the Just Like You disability awareness program October 8-10 and 15-17. The program ties to our “Three Pillars of Care,” specifically relating to “Care for Others.” This unique program “is based on the belief that barriers can be removed through education, increased awareness and creating environments of acceptance, understanding, and celebration of differences.”

Just a reminder that there is still time to order OHS apparel if you are interested. All you need to do is click on the link to our school store, browse and select the items you would like to purchase. https://stores.freshbrandgear.com/olympicheights/shop/home
