Welcome Back!
It’s been a fantastic start to the school year! Our first full week together has been smooth and successful, thanks to the teamwork of students, families, teachers, and staff. While the usual small bumps have come up, classes are settled, music and physical education are underway, and the office is running smoothly. We are grateful for your ongoing support—it makes all the difference in creating a positive beginning for everyone.
Open House and Book Fair – September 25th 2025
Mark your calendars! We invite you to join us for our Open House on Thursday, September 25, from 4:30–6:30 PM. Since there are no September conferences this year, this evening will serve as a chance to meet your child’s teacher, visit classrooms, and connect as a school community. During that time, we will have our Scholastic Bookfair setup in the plaza. More details to follow!
Reminder: No Dogs on School Grounds
For the safety and comfort of all students, please remember that dogs (with the exception of Service Dogs) are not permitted on the CBE playgrounds/property at any time. If you are walking your child to school, kindly stay on the sidewalks with your pet and avoid entering the school compound area. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone!
Confirmation of School Hours
For students in grades one through six, soft entry begins at 8:50 AM. The bell rings and instruction begins at 9:00AM. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, dismissal time is 3:34 PM. On Fridays, students in grades one through six are dismissed early at 1:00 PM. Please ensure you arrive promptly to pick-up your child. For our students in Kindergarten, every day of the week, Monday through Friday, school hours are 9:00 AM – 11:39 AM. Students arriving after 9:00AM should enter the school through the office doors, as grade entry doors will be closed.
Kiss & Drop Procedures
Ensuring the safety of our students, especially during their commute to and from school, is our top priority. We kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of pedestrian safety with your children. Please remind them to always use designated crosswalks, obey traffic signals, and remain vigilant while walking near the school zone. Additionally, encourage them to avoid distractions such as texting or wearing headphones while crossing the street. As parents, you also have a vital role to play as drivers. Please adhere to speed limits, be extra cautious in school zones, and avoid any form of distracted or reckless driving. Together, we can create a secure environment for all our students and pedestrians in our school zone. Thank you for your cooperation in fostering a culture of safety. If you are dropping off students in the morning, or picking up students in the afternoon, please familiarize yourself with our Kiss & Drop Procedures. With your help, we can ensure students safety on the way to and from school.
School Council
Our first School Council meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 6:30 PM in the plaza. This parent-led group is an important voice in shaping the school experience. We encourage all parents and guardians to join us as we set goals and share ideas for the year ahead. The School Council plays a pivotal role in our school community, as it is a platform where parents, caregivers, and guardians can actively participate in shaping the educational experience for our children. Parent-led School Councils are vital because they provide a direct channel for parental input and collaboration with educators and administrators. We invite you to join us on September 18th to kick off this year's Council meetings, where we can discuss our goals, plans, and initiatives for the upcoming school year. Together, we can make a significant impact on our children's education. Check out the School Council page on our website for further information.

Volunteers Needed – Olympic Heights Parent Association Casino
The Olympic Heights Parent Association is thrilled to announce its upcoming Fundraising Casino, happening November 1–2, 2025 at Cowboys Casino in Calgary. This exciting event is not only a great way to support our school, but also a fun opportunity to meet and connect with fellow OHS parents. Together, we have the potential to raise up to $70,000 to enhance our children’s educational experience.
Proceeds from the event will help fund essential learning tools and resources, including laptops, iPads, SMART Boards, robotics equipment, books, gym gear, music and art supplies. These contributions directly benefit our students by enriching classrooms and creating dynamic, engaging learning environments.
We truly rely on the support of our community to make this event a success.

Check the School Website First
Parents should prioritize checking the school website for information as their first step because it serves as a reliable and up-to-date hub for crucial updates, announcements, and resources. By regularly visiting the school's website, you can stay informed about important dates, curriculum changes, school events, and emergency notifications. This practice not only ensures that you are well-informed about your child's educational journey but also fosters a strong partnership between parents and the school, enabling a smoother and more supportive learning experience for your child. It's an efficient way to access valuable information and stay actively engaged in your child's school life.
Returning Reminders
As we settle back into routines, here are a few quick tips:
- Lunches: Please pack utensils, and avoid sending food that requires heating or hot water.
- Labels: Clearly label water bottles, clothing, and other belongings to make returning lost items easier.
- Footwear: Students need sturdy shoes for PE and recess. Sandals and flip-flops are not safe for activity.
Demographic Verification Forms in MyCBE Account
All families must complete the Demographic Verification Form in their MyCBE Account by September 30. Even if no information has changed, this step is required This is a requirement for all families even if there are no changes. Please find further information and support here.
If your child has a medical condition, please inform their teacher so the correct documentation can be prepared.
Playground Safety During School Hours
As we return to school, we’d like to remind families that playgrounds are reserved for student use during instructional hours. To maintain a safe and focused environment, we kindly ask that parents, caregivers, and younger siblings refrain from using the playground or being on school grounds throughout the day. The Education Act (Section 256) confirms that only school staff are permitted on the schoolyard while students are present. This helps our supervisors give their full attention to the students in their care and ensures a secure, supportive learning space. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep Olympic Heights safe and welcoming for every child.
