Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the close of another calendar year, it is a great time to reflect on the journey we have shared with your children since September. Our theme, Walking Together, rooted in the wisdom of Indigenous teachings, and inspired by the children’s book by Elder Dr. Albert D. Marshall & Louise Zimanyi, has guided us as a school community in fostering a spirit of collaboration, respect, and shared growth.

From the moment students walked through our doors, we began this journey together—teachers, staff, parents, and students alike. Each step has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen the bonds that bring us together. Through challenges and achievements, your children have shown resilience, curiosity, and a growing awareness of the values that Walking Together embodies: mutual respect, kindness, and the strength found in community.

We have already seen tremendous growth in our students, much of which was shared at our recent conferences. Academically, they’ve built on their foundations, exploring new ideas and gaining confidence in their abilities. Socially and emotionally, they’ve deepened connections with their peers and developed a greater sense of empathy and belonging. These moments of learning and personal development remind us of the importance of walking alongside one another, offering support, encouragement, and guidance.

The Indigenous teaching of walking together also reminds us to honor the land we share and the diverse voices within our community. Through this lens, we’ve embraced opportunities to learn about the rich cultural traditions and histories that shape us, helping students to develop a deeper sense of respect for the world and the people around them.

As we prepare to step into a new year, I invite you to celebrate these milestones and continue this journey with us. Together, we will keep walking forward, nurturing the potential in every child and working toward a bright and inclusive future.

Thank you for your unwavering support and for being essential partners in this journey. Together, we truly are stronger. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

Warm regards,
Trevor Barkley
